Crows Eating your Crops?
Posted on in Agriculture by Marvin Reiff
Rodents and crows penetrating his haylage bags and causing spoilage is just one of the problems West Virginia farmer Dustin Simmons had with bag storage systems.
“Crows shred the plastic on top, which I really can’t do anything about, and to keep the varmints out, we have to string an electric fence around the perimeter of the bag,” he says.
For 15 years Dustin relied solely on bag systems for his haylage, but he knew there must be a better way. At Greenwood Silo, we know that inefficiencies in bag systems can result in up to 10% dry matter loss. Stay tuned for an upcoming case study about how we helped Dustin Simmons.
